Mel Tull

For Congress

Courage. Conviction. Common Sense.

I’m fed up with Washington and career politicians like Rob Wittman who say one thing and do the opposite. We cannot continue to allow hypocrites like him to take food and medical assistance from working-class families to make it easier for the wealthy and well-connected all while increasing the federal debt that our children must repay.

I’m Mel Tull. I’m a dad, a veteran, and an experienced business lawyer, and I’m running to unseat Rob Wittman. I took an oath to serve my country, just like Rob. The difference is, I took my oath seriously. I’m ready to do what Rob hasn’t done, stand up and fight for our district.

We need leaders in congress who fight for Virginia’s families and local businesses. Leaders who will lower costs for everyone, protect our health care and rights, and put our families first.

It wasn’t always my plan to run for office. I’m not a career politician – but I am the right person for the job. As an experienced business and community leader, I am confident I can win this seat and bring about a new era of leadership. Leaders who put voters’ interests ahead of their own. I will work for you to build bridges, restore your trust in our government, and deliver results on the issues that matter.

Virginia deserves a congressman with the courage of his convictions. I’m ready to cut through the noise and focus on common sense solutions. I look forward to sharing my vision for Virginia’s 1st District with you. I consider it an honor to earn your trust and support.

Not Just Priorities. Plans.

It’s not enough for candidates and politicians to care about the issues – we need real, actionable plans. That includes a willingness to work for bipartisan solutions, promote transparency and civility in public discourse, and build consensus among all constituencies. However, that willingness to reach across the aisle ends when party politics or actions cross the line, and I’ll never be afraid to stand up for my constituents.

Who I am and Why I’m Running

Our current Congressman, Rob Wittman, failed to do as he said he would. Instead, he voted to take food assistance from the poor and healthcare from the sick, all while increasing the federal debt burden on us and our children. His actions have put our lives and livelihoods at risk. However, I don’t believe his presence in Washington is a foregone conclusion. This District – Virginia’s First Congressional District – needs a leader who will represent every single one of us, and I believe that in order to unseat him, we need someone who is thoughtful and deliberate. I’m the candidate who can win in the General Election. I am a collaborative leader who listens and values constructive dialogue and consideration of all perspectives.

I know the struggles and challenges that Virginians face. After high school, I enlisted in the Army. I put myself through college using the Army College Fund, federally guaranteed student loans, and by working part-time jobs, earning an accounting degree and a law degree. I know the importance of hard work and self-improvement. But, I also know what is possible when government works for and supports the people. I want to build a country where upward mobility is truly possible for everyone.

In a wide-ranging career spanning over three decades, I have worked as a consultant for a large accounting firm, as a business lawyer in a large law firm, and as general counsel of a regional company. Currently, I am a small-business owner of a solo practice law firm focused on representing small businesses, entrepreneurs, and non-profits.

I am deeply passionate about serving this District and its people. This includes serving in leadership positions of non-profit charities that support children and young adults in the foster care system. I also actively participate in business and trade organizations that foster economic growth in Virginia. Additionally, I am committed to promoting civic engagement, fostering dialogue, and promoting understanding among our communities. My ultimate goal is to create strong, thriving, safe, and just communities for all.

My wife, Dr. Annemarie Tull, and I have three adult children who all attended Henrico County Public Schools and public universities. We know firsthand how well the system could work, if only it had the right champions in place.
